How to set up AlwaysUp to run Netcam Watcher

Netcam Watcher now comes with a free licence for AlwaysUp, value US$39.99. This is a utility that lets you run Netcam Watcher as a windows service and can enhance the reliability of your Netcam Watcher system.

You can find details of AwaysUp here:
http://www.coretechnologies.com/products/AlwaysUp/

To use AlwaysUp:

1) Download and Install AlwaysUp from
http://www.coretechnologies.com/products/alwaysup/AlwaysUp_Installer.exe

2) Save the licence file that you were sent when you registered Netcam Watcher to the AlwaysUp program folder. This is normally C:\Program Files\AlwaysUp\

If you don't have a licence file, skip this step, and AlwaysUp will run as a demo. If you have bought Netcam Watcher, email us and we can send you a licence file.

3) In Netcam Watcher , choose File > Preferences, select Use HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and then click yes when prompted (this makes the run as service and foreground incarnations use the same registry data)

4) Run AlwaysUp and add Netcam Watcher by clicking Add a New Application or from the menu, Application > Add

At this stage you need to browse to the Netcam Watcher program file. This will normally be located either

C:\Program Files (x86)\beausoft\ncwpro\ncw.exe  (for 64 bit operating systems)
or
C:\Program Files\beausoft\ncwpro\ncw.exe  (for other Windows versions)

5) Add Arguments according to your requirements:

-AUTOSTART this starts the cameras automatically

-TIMER this enables the scheduler

-ALARMS this enables the alarms

-MINIMIZE runs the program minimized

-NOPASSWORD skips prompting for passwords on startup

-AUTODELAY starts all the cameras but with a 20 second delay to allow the system to full start

You can add multiple arguments, like this

-AUTOSTART -TIMER -NOPASSWORD

6) If you want to use the Cambar you will need to set the user account to be your own user account and not the default system one, on the Logon tab.

7) On the Restart tab, check When the Application stops, restart it. And select Immediately.

8) On the Monitor tab, check Whenever it hangs and enter 1 minute

9) On the Extras tab, check Dismiss Application Crashed windows

10) If you want to use the new Sanity Check, Go to the Monitor tab and check Whenever it fails the following sanity check. And then click the "..." button to browse to the Netcam Watcher program folder and locate the file NCWPING.BAT and click OK.  Use an interval of one minute or 30 seconds.

Once you have set everything up, click Save. Then start the application by doing Application > Start NCW in this session (or just Application > Start NCW if this option is not available). Make sure that everything is working properly.

Once you are sure that the program is working OK, you can select Start the Application... Automatically after the system boots from the General tab. Now reboot the PC to make sure that this works. Note that you may not be able to see Netcam Watcher running (on Vista and Windows7) but you can check it's running by opening Task Manager and looking for the NCW.EXE process and see that it's consuming CPU (assuming that the cameras are running).

NOTE for Vista and Windows 7 users: AlwaysUp will start Netcam Watcher in a "session" that is different to the session that you use when you log in. What this means is that it's running in the background and you can't see it. This is fine (in fact good) if you just need to record in the background

But if you want to use the user interface (ie see the program) you must do this through AlwaysUp. Run AlwaysUP and do Application > Restart NCW in this session

DO NOT just run Netcam Watcher from the shortcut on the desktop or there will be two incarnations running and this will cause problems.
